Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award winning jazz singer. She was born the 20th of February, 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio, to Olden Wilson who was a worker at an ironworks and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Her father's love of music as well as the music he played at home had a major influence on Nancy when she was a little girl. When she was young she was already able to establish the impression of who she was as well as what she hoped to accomplish. The choir at church helped develop the talent. Following her win in a talent show on television around the age of 15, she began appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies, while still at high school. It was at that time that she began to work in nightclubs at the at the same time. When she graduated from high school, aged 17 Nancy was enrolled for a semester at the Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before leaving and becoming professional as a musician. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, as part of the group. Cannonball addederley recommended that she relocate to New York for her career, and in 1959 she relocated into The Big Town. Within a month she got a gig singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her, and she was signed. A contract was formalized by Capitol Records in the year 1960. That year, she made her debut with. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Her albums were a hit and Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B but soon shifted towards torch and jazz. Their 1962 collaboration Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley was instrumental in propelling her to fame and she had her breakout smash Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The following year it led to her being booked at New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
