Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson, the Chillicothe ironworker on the 20th of February, 1937. Her mother, Lillian Ryan worked as housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest among six children. Her father's love of music as well as the music he played in the family room were an enormous influence on Nancy at the age of a girl. In 1956, she made her first album as part of Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band with who she performed on tour between 1956 until 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball Adderley told that she should move in New York to further her career and she went into The Big Town at the end of the year 1959. Within a short time, she was singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley heard her sing and immediately signed her. In 1960, he signed her to Capitol Records. That the same year, she debuted her first single. Guess who? Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. With the help of Adderley's influence, Nancy Wilson shifted from R&B towards jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped propel her into the spotlight and her hit Tell Me the Truth was made available in the year 1963. Following that year, this led to her being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
