Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson
Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. was employed for a lengthy period as housekeeper. Nancy was the first child of six. Nancy was a child who listened to records from her father as well as his love for music. It was clear that she wanted to be a musician when she was just four years old. She began developing her talent by singing in the choir at church. When she was 15 and had a chance to win the talent show on T.V. and began appearing on the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. At the age of fifteen, she began her professional career at nightclubs. Nancy was just 17 at the time she completed high school. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one term, Nancy went on to become professional performers. In 1956, she recorded her first album with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball Aderley suggested she relocate into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959 Nancy made the move in The Big Town. Within one month, she got a job singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. The singer made her debut in 1960 by releasing the single "Girls" after she signed the contract with Capitol records. Guess whom I am seeing in the present. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to bring her to the forefront and her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. The song led to a performance at New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America the following year and she became a star.
